Who Are We?
Politics has a problem. Not just the policies, not just the politicians, but who gets to shape the conversation in the first place.
For too long, the political agenda has been set by the same voices, in the same rooms, representing the same interests. The views of everyday people, students, workers, first-time voters, those who have never seen themselves reflected in a politician or a newspaper column, have been misrepresented, filtered, or simply ignored. The result is a political landscape that feels increasingly distant from the lives of the people it is supposed to serve.
Tally Politics exists to change that.
We are an independent, non-partisan publication founded in 2026 and built on a simple idea: that everyone has something worth saying about the world they live in, and that those voices deserve a platform. Not a platform gatekept by party membership, academic credentials, or institutional affiliation, but one that is genuinely open.
What we do
Tally Politics publishes two kinds of content. Opinion pieces, sharp, argued, and personal, from writers who have something to say and the conviction to say it clearly. And policy proposals, concrete, evidence-based ideas for how things could be done differently, from anyone willing to make the case.
We don't have a party line. We don't favour one side of the political spectrum over another. What we favour is a well-argued position, an honest perspective, and the willingness to engage seriously with the issues that matter.
Our editorial team reviews every submission before publication. We hold our content to a standard. But we don't ask for experience, credentials, or a particular background. We ask for a point of view and the words to back it up.
Why now
Political disengagement among young people is not apathy. It is a rational response to a system that has consistently failed to listen. When the issues that define a generation, housing, mental health, climate, the cost of living, AI, are debated by people who have little personal stake in the outcome, it is unsurprising that those most affected switch off.
We think that needs to change. And we think the change starts with giving people a real outlet. Not a comment section, not a social media thread, but a proper publication where ideas are taken seriously, argued honestly, and put in front of an audience that is willing to engage with them.

The name Tally Politics is deliberate. A tally is a count, a record of every mark made, every voice registered, every vote cast. Nothing is lost. Nothing goes unheard. That is what we are trying to build.
